My first draft was more of a "treatment" style, more detailed than an outline, much less than a book. My scenes were between 250 and 700 words. Working this way was great because it got me to focus on character and narrative and not worry about "writing" at all. I only needed to know what the words meant. Also, being able to push research down the road was great. I only researched what I used in the book.

I also learned that most problems are fixed in the developmental edit. Solutions often only present themselves when there's something to look at. And the solution to scene 8 might be in scene 12. But I can't know that until the first draft exists. I can see which scenes need rewriting or splitting. And which scenes I'm missing. It's a great way to work.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to a little break while the outline is off for the critique, but I'm so so excited to get to drafting!

Seriously though... This series is so good for me because I'm getting a handle on the last subplot of my first novel (already have main plot and romance pretty scoped out). So I can see just a bit ahead while you're working. I'll just take your word for it that some day I'll be doing the scene questionnaire!! Over and over and over ...

Ahhh congratulations!! The scene breakdowns really do help me, but do what works for you!

idk if this is helpful but b-roll of you doing other stuff in a vlog (like groceries!) really is about like the simulation of doing stuff LMAO just like with broll of you writing, it can feel like we're along with you to have broll of grocery shopping etc. Loved the video! Just thought it might help since you asked if it does anything

That is helpful! I think I've watched some vlogs were there's too much b-roll and I'm impatient to get back to the main point of the vlog 😅 But I'll try to include a little more in my vlogs!

Best wishes with your writing. I hope it goes well. Pretty new to this book tube malarkey and finding my way around. Good luck.

If we see you grocery shopping, then we have to admit that you didn't fly to Lake Tahoe, sip a cocktail in a fancy pool, and fly home in time to be at work.... So it's probably for the best that we can let our imaginations rerun wild...
